Facts and Common Opinions
What is abortion? Is it good or is it bad or both? When is it a living human?
-The information below comes from www.abortionfacts.com and more details and information can be found there.
- The heartbeat begins on the 21st day after conception.
- Electrical brain waves have been recorded as early as forty days.
- The accepted minimum that a baby can survive outside of a mother’s womb is 20 weeks after conception, which will most likely continue to get smaller with more technological and medical advances.
Pro-Abortion: (with my responses)
- The fetus is not a human, just a mass of tissue
- (me) It is human. This is God's creative act from the very moment of conception. That's why God uses sex, to be fruitful and multiply (Gen 1:28)
- Abortion is safer than childbirth.
- (me) Safer for who?
- Abortion is Safe
- (me) not for a new life
- Every child should be a wanted child.
- (me) God often brings difficult people into our lives that we don't want to deal with, but God uses those people to teach us (patience, kindness, understanding, etc). It is our attitude (each person) that must change to accept this burden from God. God often uses the hardest and worst situations to work out even better. (Rom 8:28) Blessings in disguise (Ex. A friend just told me that if her grandpa hadn't had cancer, he probably would have never come to the Lord...he died of cancer, but now he can live forever with God - in my opinion that's a good trade-off).
- The number of abortions is relatively small.
- (me) And many are advocating for more, which is still murder.
- Nobody has the right to impose their morals on me.
- (me) Where do morals come from?...God. He has the advantage in this one, so you might as well submit.
- A woman should be able to control her own body.
- (me) True and has the responsibility to care for her children, no matter how illigitimate. Children are a blessing. (Ps 127:3-5)
- Abortion must be kept legal, especially for all the rape and incest pregnancies.
- (me) It's not fair - true. So now I am entitled to murder - false. Also see 4 up above.
- If abortion is outlawed women will be forced to go to back-alley abortion clinics.
- (me) That is their choice, but it is still wrong. Hopefully less children will be murdered.
- Aborting unwanted children reduces the number of abused children.
- (me) So to kill is better to abuse.(?) Counsel people to be good parents. Our society is messed up because we all live in sinful and are selfish. People's hearts need to change and yeah, that's a tall order.
- We need to remember that we are overpopulating the planet.
- (me) The planet is not overpopulated, we just need to learn to manage it and our systems better or more efficient. If we do want to reduce or keep a lower population, teach abstinence, stricter punishment for rape, etc...
- Planned Parenthood is a group that focuses on contraception.
- (me) Sex outside of marriage is still sin and sin will worsen (possibly ruin) our lives. (Rom 3:23)
Pro-Life: (also from www.abortionfacts.com)
- I believe that the unborn child is human.
- I believe life begins at conception.
- I believe that abortion is not safe.
- I believe that abortion is a war on the unborn.
- I believe that the Roe v. Wade decision, legalizing abortion on demand in America, was one of the most important and devastating Supreme Court decisions.
- I believe that a constitutional amendment should be passed that gives equal protection to all living humans, including the unborn.
- I believe that the violence inside and outside abortion clinics is morally wrong.
- I believe that rape and incest are horrible crimes and should be punished, but I don't believe that a child conceived from either should be killed.
- I do not believe that the government should fund abortions.
- I do not believe that the government should fund Planned Parenthood - the largest national supplier of abortions.
- Being a religious person, I believe that the Bible backs up my views on abortion.
What I Believe and Why
Man and Woman were created to be together in this fashion and this is the act of life. To interrupt that process of life is murdering. That is taking control of the situation and “playing God.”
Sure, it is unfortunate if one gets pregnant and they are not ready, but we have to live with the consequences of a mistake (often when it is not your mistake). We know the possible consequences of having sex.
If it’s a rape, it is still not right to abort a baby and kill them, because the Bible says “thou shalt not kill.” God has bigger things planned and this might be a miracle coming out of what seems like a horrible, hopeless situation. We cannot question why God does things like this (at least not until we see the whole puzzle) (Job), even if things don’t go the way we plan because God has a better plan even if it doesn't make sense. This is where more faith in God comes in.
From The Bible
Genesis 1:27-28 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it...
Exodus 20:13 -Thou shalt not kill.
Job 31:15 -Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?
Psalm 127:3-5 -Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
Psalm 139:13-14 - For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Proverbs 24:11 -Rescue those who are unjustly sentenced to die; save them as they stagger to their death. Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve.
Isaiah 49:1 -The Lord hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name.
Jeremiah 1:5 -Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
1 Peter 2:16 (NLT) -For you are free, yet you are God’s slaves, so don’t use your freedom as an excuse to do evil.

I want to write more later, but due to circumstances I am writing this from my IPad and must be brief. I just want to make a quick comment about the "my body, my choice" argument. Current medical science has proven that an unborn fetus is NOT part of a woman's body. The body would reject the fetus as a foreign object were it not for certain chemicals secreted by the placenta that neutralize the body's natural defenses. These same chemicals are currently being used in organ transplant therapies to prevent the host body from rejecting a transplanted organ. A natural system that has been in use for thousands of years has, within the past few decades, been found to have another very important use. It was always there, but only recently have we had the technological means to make use of it. If that doesn't scream design than I don't know what does.
ReplyDeleteWow, you really did jump right in here with this post. I am pro-choiceI don't have much time, so I'll only express one thing before I leave.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, your source is obscenely biased. Yet I understand with a passionate issue like this finding one is difficult. With a cursory search I found this. Maybe it will help?
http://www.womensmedcenter.com/faqs/studentresources.asp
In addition, please respect the people that are passionate about this by addressing them as they would like to be. Don't call those who disagree with you pro-abortion, call them pro-choice.
One more quick thing. BJ does make a good point about respecting those with differing opinions. People on both sides of this issue have a bad habit of negatively addressing those on the opposite side. I have seen people being labeled as anti-abortion and anti-life. Those on the opposing side of this issue prefer to be known as pro-life, and as BJ pointed out those on the supporting side prefer to be known as pro-choice. This is a bit off-topic, and I apologize but I feel it is an important point. My point is that we should endeavor to respect those on both sides of the issue.
ReplyDeleteI’ve decided to respond in a similar fashion to BAM
ReplyDeletePro-Choice
•The fetus is not a human, just a mass of tissue
o I think that the fetus isn’t really human until it can survive outside of the womb. However to just call it a mass of tissue is silly. I don’t know any other pro-choice people who use language like this.
• Abortion is safer than childbirth.
o It might be, depending on who you ask, but I don’t think that is the reason most people choose not to bring their child into the world.
•Abortion is Safe
o Abortions are performed by trained professionals; they aren’t out there to go hurting people. Clicking on the link next to this bullet point shows you a info about how dangerous it really is, and I would like to point out that there can be complications to any medical procedure. And if any of the hyperbolic claims on that page were close enough to true, there would be a full investigation by the Center for Disease Control.
•Every child should be a wanted child.
o It’s true. This point tries to bring up the quality of life argument which states that unwanted children are going to have a bad quality of life. And I think that children should be wanted by their parents so much that they might as well not live if they can’t have that. I know that sounds horrible, but I feel that we live in a world that holds some sad truths. And this is a sad opinion of mine.
•The number of abortions is relatively small.
o It really isn’t, there are too many people that have to resort to abortion. The women who get abortions should not need to get them. They should be responsible adults and engage in safe sex or not at all. Sadly this just doesn’t happen.
•Nobody has the right to impose their morals on me.
o I agree with this statement, because to me there is no perfect morality. However I realize that this happens everyday in the form of sin taxes and similar legislation. I don’t want others moral restrictions forced upon me and I don’t think that if you think abortion is wrong that you should stop someone else from having one.
•A woman should be able to control her own body.
o She should have been in enough control to practice safe sex, but she didn’t. But then again accidents do happen to those that practice safe sex. I also think that a woman should become pregnant when she knows she is ready, sometimes this just doesn’t happen.
•Abortion must be kept legal, especially for all the rape and incest pregnancies.
o I agree.
•If abortion is outlawed women will be forced to go to back-alley abortion clinics.
o It is probably true that if abortion were outlawed then the number of abortions would drop off a lot. However, there would still be a small number of women who would be crafty enough to find illegal abortion clinics. And without these being regulated by government safety laws there would be more unhealthy practices.
•Aborting unwanted children reduces the number of abused children.
o Probably. I guess this goes back to my quality of life statement from earlier.
•We need to remember that we are overpopulating the planet.
o American women are not overpopulating the earth. This is a silly argument.
•Planned Parenthood is a group that focuses on contraception.
o Planned Parenthood is a realistic organization. Yes they provide abortions and access to other contraception. But they also prepare women to put up their child for adoption. They help new parents find the resources necessary to be great parents. In addition, they provide sexual education courses for youngsters so that they don’t spread misinformation about sex.
Sorry the formatting sucked on the last one. Here's the other half
ReplyDeletePro-Life
• I believe that the unborn child is human.
o his was addressed earlier
•I believe life begins at conception.
o I disagree, as I said before I think a child’s life would begin when they can survive outside the womb.
• I believe that abortion is not safe.
o This was addressed earlier.
• I believe that abortion is a war on the unborn.
o Whoa!!! I sincerely doubt that the women who get abortions and those that perform them hate fetuses.
• I believe that the Roe v. Wade decision, legalizing abortion on demand in America, was one of the most important and devastating Supreme Court decisions.
o I think that Brown vs. Board of Education and the Stokes Trial were more important. As you can tell I don’t think that Roe v. Wade was devastating.
• I believe that a constitutional amendment should be passed that gives equal protection to all living humans, including the unborn.
o I don’t think this.
• I believe that the violence inside and outside abortion clinics is morally wrong.
o I wouldn’t call it violence, and I don’t think it is completely wrong.
• I believe that rape and incest are horrible crimes and should be punished, but I don't believe that a child conceived from either should be killed.
o I think that’s up to the mom to decide
• I do not believe that the government should fund abortions.
o It doesn’t I think there is a law against it. I can't exactly quote the name of it though.
• I do not believe that the government should fund Planned Parenthood - the largest national supplier of abortions.
o They don’t fund the abortions at all. They fund the other valuable services the organization provides. Explained above.
• Being a religious person, I believe that the Bible backs up my views on abortion.
o I’m not a religious person.
And, of course, you open up with the topic that's too hot for me to handle. XD
ReplyDeleteI'm in-the-closet pro-life, I guess? On one hand, the idea of killing proto-babies is abhorrent to me. On the other hand, I don't feel it's my right to tell women what to do with their bodies. So, I tend to stay out of abortion debates.
Speaking about respect and the term "pro-choice." Okay, hopefully I can respond simply and clearly. I am biased, you are biased. I take the Bible as the ultimate authority, because it is God's Word. I may not always research every side of every issue, and I know that sounds...not objective, but I don't have the time for it. I would welcome other views, but here's the deal...I know the Bible is absolute Truth and Rom 1:18-20 says "...men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evidence within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse." And verse 25 says "For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie..." So I say this boldly in love that if you side with pro-choice, you are standing for sin and I have to say that that is a decision that I have to boldly warn against and rebuke you for. I know this doesn't sound respectful, but to be frank, I could even call that viewpoint pro-murder. Calling it by a lesser name doesn't change the truth. I don't mean to be disrespectful...but bold in Truth. I'm praying that you don't fight against the Truth!
